unless you need these high end features, consider Diptrace. you can't automatically set tracks to be the same length, and there may be others. To be fair, there are some things that Diptrace doesn't do, e.g. ![]() I'm kind of glad Altium didn't help because it became a no-brainer for my employer to buy a full, unlimited, $700 copy of Diptrace which I've been using happily ever since - just took delivery of a sophisticated 4 layer board which was a breeze - and no crashes.ĭiptrace is based somewhere in Europe but posting a question in their forums gets an answer by the following morning in my experience. I called Altium for support but the $2,500 per year fee for support (I'm not making this up) had not been paid so Altium wouldn't even let me have an in-version 10.xx update even though the license had cost us around $5,000!!!! Also, when you hover your mouse above a net in DipTrace, all lines on that net as well as all pins on devices all light up either this was not on by default in Altium 10 or it wasn't possible - I looked but gave up. ![]() Contrast this with Diptrace where, as you route a wire to the bus, a list of existing nets in the bus pops up and you can add an extra one or choose an existing one. Buses were a joke, the fact that you draw a bus in Altium doesn't mean anything and the wires that you 'connect' to the bus line are also meaningless. ![]() I was an Eagle user up to a couple of years ago and then worked for a year with Diptrace there were a couple of annoyances but both have been fixed in the latest version.ģ months ago I joined a company using Altium 10 and was asked to work on it - I tried, I really tried not only did it crash at least once per day but it was very confusing simple things were buried in 20-something item menus and there was a lot of stuff that should have been associated with right click for properties that wasn't. You can get an unlimited version for $695. I like Diptrace because it's so intuitive, go to and watch the videos.
